Code of Conduct
Last updated: August 13, 2026
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
1 Peter 3:15
CONTEND exists for one thing: to defend the faith well — with both conviction and charity. This Code applies to everyone here, of every faith and none. It is part of our Terms of Service.
What we expect
- Contend for ideas, not against people. Attack arguments, never a person’s worth, character, or motives.
- Represent others fairly. State an opposing view as its best version (“steelman”) before you answer it. No strawmen.
- Be honest. Don’t misquote, fabricate sources, or argue in bad faith.
- Stay gracious under pressure. A calm, respectful answer is stronger than a cutting one.
- Welcome the outsider. Make room for questions, doubts, and people who are new to all of this.
What is not allowed
- Personal attacks & harassment — insults, name-calling, mocking, pile-ons, or persistent unwanted contact.
- Hate & dehumanization — content that demeans people for their religion, ethnicity, nationality, sex, or other protected characteristics. Critiquing a belief is welcome; degrading people is not.
- Threats or incitement of violence or harm.
- Doxxing — posting someone’s private or identifying information.
- Obscenity, spam, and trolling — pornographic content, advertising, flooding, or deliberately derailing discussions.
- Deception — impersonation, sock-puppet accounts, or manipulating votes and ranks.
- Unlawful or infringing content.
A note for our guests of other faiths
You are genuinely welcome to question, push back, and make your case. In return we ask the same charity of you that we ask of ourselves: engage the strongest version of what Christians actually believe, and keep it respectful. Robust disagreement is the point; contempt is not.
Reporting & enforcement
If you see something that crosses these lines, use the report button on the thread, reply, debate, or comment. Reports go to our moderators.
Depending on severity and history, moderators may:
- Give a warning;
- Remove the offending content;
- Suspend or permanently ban an account.
We aim to be fair and consistent, but we will act decisively to keep this a place where truth can be spoken in love.
